 PROPOSED SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES

Delegation convenes in Great Falls, Montana. Reception with student delegates and representatives from the TMI Tours & Cruises, followed by check-in at our ranch.

Great Falls, MT

Great Falls is settled in the heart of Montana, the Big Sky Country, Great Falls is surrounded by spectacular natural wonders and scenery. It is nestled between rich, productive farm land only miles away from the majestic Rocky Mountains. The city was settled around the mighty Missouri River, one of nature's most magnificent waterways. The Missouri River provides Great Falls with its name. As the Missouri cuts through the city it drops over 500 feet in a series of rapids and five breathtaking waterfalls -- the great falls of the Missouri. The Electric City has a long tradition of history which began with the famous expedition of Lewis and Clark in 1805.

Saturday, June 9

It will be easy to imagine you’re in the “land of dinosaurs” as we will follow in their footsteps.  Adventurers will have the opportunity to hike the spectacular sandstone ridge jutting 500 feet above the surrounding prairie, a lonely survivor of the glaciers that scoured the area tens of thousands of years ago.   En route to this evening’s welcome dinner, the delegation will take a short drive up Signal Hill to enjoy a glittering view of the city. Our dinosaurology laboratory tonight covers ferocious teeth and other significant finds in this region.   Overnight at a wilderness lodge; it is very safe and comfortable.

Sunday, June 10

While you’re enjoying a dinosaur sized breakfast, we’ll gather to review our planned activities for this exciting day. Everyone packed and ready to go trekking? Adventurers will hike to an ancient tepee ring: this circle of stones estimated to be 6,000 to 8,000 years old.  The stories of passing history these stones have witnessed – the stories they could tell. The circle of stones is on an ancient trail that was the path taken by the earliest humans as they migrated from Siberia through Alaska and south along the eastern front of the Rocky Mountains.  You will have opportunity to experience one of the world’s richest fossil beds, one of two where dinosaur eggs and the very nests of baby dinosaur skeletons have been discovered (the other sight being in Mongolia).  Today our paleontologic activities will focus on the babies found.  More fun tonight as you enjoy late night tales of the region told by the expert guides knowledgeable on the early inhabitants of this area of North America and bed down in a Montana bunkhouse.

 Western Montana

Monday, June 11

A pioneer breakfast cooked in Dutch ovens and a walk through the actual arboretum. The delegation will transfer by motor coach for Eastern Washington.  We will stop for an outdoor lunch at a key overlook of the expanse towards Canada and Montana towards the route of the dinosaurs.  End your day with your arrival at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane’s Historic Browne’s Addition and a private viewing of A T. rex Named Sue, the largest, most complete, and best preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil yet discovered. Your delegation will enjoy a “Dino” dinner from McDonalds (a named national sponsor of the exhibit) and be treated to a Jurassic film – and Hollywood’s newest hit soon to be released  “Night at the Museum”. Then be transported three stories underground via the transporter room (the largest passenger elevator in Spokane) to visit the star of your travels A T. rex Named Sue. Your group will be behind closed doors in the depths of the Museum with Sue the sounds and shadows cast as well Sue’s size and ferocity will remain a memory with you forever.

Spokane, Washington

Tuesday, June 12

Group breakfast and journal sharing, then a return to the MAC for our final laboratory of discovery and a fossil hunt on the grounds of the MAC.  Mid-day departure from Spokane today.  This itinerary can be customized and done in reverse as well.

Months of planning are about to culminate into an educational opportunity that will energize and excite both students and adults.  The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) is bringing A T. rex Named Sue to Spokane. She is not just any T. rex, the biggest, meanest meat eater of the dinosaur species; she is a scientifically correct cast of THE biggest and THE most complete T.rex fossil ever found.

The Field Museum in Chicago created the exhibit and it has been thrilling people of all ages, from Bangkok to Wichita and from Singapore to Cedar Falls, since its first unveiling in 2000. We are the only museum in the Inland Northwest (dinosaur country) scheduled to bring this “tyrant lizard king,” as its Latin name translates, to our gallery.

We want to announce a special travel program for students that will provide a T. rex learning experience and opportunity to explore regional paleontology history for yourself and your children, as students. You are invited to learn and be a part of this visual and interactive dino extravaganza.

The MAC is partnering with TMI Tours & Cruises to put together the Dinosaur Tour of Discovery available for a limited time this June and July. Our travel program is designed for curious students aged 8-13, adding an educational component to the “Sue” experience.  Imagine engaging the science of discovery, visiting areas where dinosaur bones have been found, touching fossils and talking with scientists in the field.  Toss in some old fashion fun, some camping adventure, and let the educational holiday culminate at the fabulous “Sue” exhibit right here at the MAC!  If the youngsters in your life are interested in a Jurassic experience, are curious about scientific discovery, or just look forward to Hollywood’s “Night at the Museum, we’re sure the wow factor of on-the-spot excitement will appeal to them.  We have a wild and wacky night planned here at the MAC for the students who take the tour.  Memories help learning last a lifetime.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Getting Started

After you have read these materials, step two is to secure a block of time for your group’s expedition.  All that is required for this step is a deposit of $50, upon receipt of which, a representative from TMI will contact you to advise of what dates are available, to determine which of those dates will work for your group, and to assign you an expedition number.  This deposit is fully refundable up until 60 days prior to the expedition date agreed upon; or it can be applied to the tour price for you or your designee.

Step three will be to gather personal information and payments from the members in your group.  TMI will supply you with the appropriate registration forms and copies of the full terms and conditions to be given to each adult joining the group or signing on behalf of minor children.  If you prefer to collect all the information and monies yourself, that is fine;  or your members are welcome to register directly and individually with TMI;  they just need to know the expedition number.

Sensible Details

Both MAC and TMI are sensitive to the needs of children when traveling and realize that certain precautions and safeguards are necessary.  They also understand that young attention spans can be short and that their travel should include engrossing activities, patient and upbeat leaders, clear guidelines, and vigilant adult supervision.  For all of these reasons, the following details will be a part of each expedition:

  • Each group will need a minimum of 1 adult per each 6 minor children.
  • Sleeping arrangements will have some restrictions, so that appropriate gender requirements can be met.
  • Every reasonable effort will be made to see that activities arranged are in a safe environment.  Parents are reminded that some activities, even simple ones such as light hiking, can have inherent and unpredictable injury potential.
  • Included meals are specified.  Other foods, snacks, souvenirs, etc. and not included.  Individuals must bring their own spending money for any items they might need that are not specifically included.
  • Some special circumstances or student needs can be accommodated; some cannot.  If one of your group has special needs, including any kind of physical disability, required medicines such as insulin, etc., please contact TMI.  We will need to verify that our vendors can accommodate those needs before confirming the registration.
  • Each expedition will need a minimum number of 28, including adults and students, to operate.  Because of this, TMI reserves the right to add members to your group in order to meet minimums.
